Clarkson Pools, formerly known as Pools by John Clarkson, has been a family-owned business for generations — proudly celebrating our 35th anniversary in 2025. Our roots go back to the 1950s, when the Clarkson family began building a reputation for craftsmanship, innovation, and personal service.
What started as a small family tradition has grown into one of Northeast Florida’s most trusted names in pool building. From award-winning designs to lasting quality, our focus has always been the same: create beautiful, functional pools and outdoor spaces while treating every client like part of the family.
The Clarkson Story
In 1989, our founder John Clarkson launched Pools by John Clarkson with a mission to bring exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, and customer service to the Jacksonville pool industry. His passion for pool construction ran deep, rooted in the family’s pool business where John began working in the 1960s and later managed operations through the 1970s and 1980s.
By combining traditional workmanship with forward-thinking design, John set the stage for a company that would become one of Northeast Florida’s most trusted pool builders. In the 1990s, he attended the inaugural Genesis 3 design school, learning advanced principles that brought modern creativity, high-quality materials, and innovative water features into every project.
In 1996, Pools by John Clarkson joined Aquatech, now United Aqua Group (UAG), gaining direct relationships with leading manufacturers and suppliers. This partnership gave our team greater access to top-tier products, cutting-edge technology, and industry education—resources that still shape our work today.
The 2000s marked an exciting new chapter as the second generation joined the family business after completing their studies. Their contributions led to the creation of our Pool Care division, the introduction of our Life of the Pool Commitment, and the expansion into full Outdoor Living with their General Contracting licenses.
In preparation of celebrating 35 years in business, 2024 brought the rebrand from Pools by John Clarkson to Clarkson Pools. This name honors our family legacy while embracing the future. It reflects not only our history but our dedication to evolving with the needs of our clients, delivering excellence in form, function, and final product for generations to come.

From Pools to Outdoor Living
In 2017, we expanded beyond pools to create comprehensive outdoor living experiences. Our Outdoor Living division now designs and builds complete backyard environments — including outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, cabanas, pergolas, and more — enhancing how families in Northeast Florida enjoy their homes year-round.
Life of the Pool Commitment
In 2010, Clarkson Pools established our Pool Care division to continue providing consistent, high-quality service long after construction ends. We offer weekly maintenance, repair services, and full pool renovations, ensuring our clients receive Clarkson Quality throughout the life of the pool.
